Originally from ʻAhualoa, Hawai’i, raised in Fort Worth, Texas, Misa Womack is an active performer and educator in the Boston area. Throughout her career, Misa has performed with the Wonder Horns (DFW), Big Daddy Band (DFW), New England Yankees Jazz Band (MA), Boston University Wind Ensemble, Boston University Symphony Orchestra, Texas Tech Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Texas Tech Symphony Orchestra, Texas Tech Jazz Ensemble, Texas Tech Contemporary Music Ensemble, and the Collegium Musicum Ensemble (Lubbock).
Beyond large ensembles, Misa is an accomplished chamber musician. As a member of the Hub City Brass Quintet, she was a finalist at the Coltman Chamber Music Festival (2020). In the Texas Tech Red Raiders Dozen, she participated as a featured ensemble in the International Trombone Festival (2019 and 2022) as well as the Texas Music Educators Association Convention (2020). Most recently, Misa participated in and coordinated the Boston University Women’s Brass Sextet to travel to and compete at the International Women’s Brass Festival in Mito, Japan, where they placed third overall in the Ginger Turner Ensemble Competition (2024). She currently plays in the Boston Trombone Quartet and the Boston University Trombone Choir.
As a soloist, she has participated in masterclasses with Abbie Conant, Megumi Kanda, Carsten Svanberg, Dave Begnoche, Jim Markey, Don Lucas, Matt Wright, and Angel Subero.
Misa began attending Boston University (BU) to pursue a Master’s in Trombone performance in 2023 in the aim to support her most treasured educational pedagogy; you must first be a good musician to be a good educator. While pursuing her performance degree, she has been devoted to continuing to teach music. She currently has a private lesson studio as well as holds a Teaching Assistantship with the Boston University Athletic Bands department. As a member of the BU Staff, Misa instructs both the BU Marching band and Pep Band where she leads the band at both Women’s and Men’s Basketball games. She also instructs a “Brass Class” where she teaches beginning brass instruments to those who would like to participate in an Athletic Bands Ensemble on a brass instrument the following academic year.
Prior to attending BU, Misa was granted the opportunity to complete her practical training in Frisco, Texas (2022). While there, she student taught at Lebanon Trail High School (LTHS) and Clark Middle School. Misa was privileged to work with the LTHS Band as they achieved unanimous superior ratings at every contest and finished the season as the 5A Runner up in their area marching contest. At Clark Middle School, one of the most honored middle school band programs in Texas, she spent her time in the 6th grade classrooms co-instructing beginner instrument classes.
For the past three years, Misa has served as an instructor of trombone for Texas Tech’s Band and Orchestra camp. She holds a Bachelor or Music with EC-12 Certification from Texas Tech University (2022) and is currently studying a Master’s of Music at Boston University (2025). Her principle teachers are Don Lucas, James Decker, and Alexander Theiss.
